Major Hong Kong Theme Park Propane/Natural Gas Flame Effects Controller
- Designed safety-compliant Flame Effects Control System with wireless Remote Enable for multiple onshore and on-water flame effects. Authored specification for mock-up and testing requirements and supervised testing. Designed, tested and installed controls. Authored and supervised execution of Acceptance Test Procedure. Conducted and authored formal Hazard Analysis for all gas delivery and controls, control electronics, and operational procedures. Effects included a fire plume, fire balls, character façade with fire eyes and mouth, and 16 m2 fire-on-water, all using mixed propane and natural gases at multiple pressures.
Major Japanese Theme Park Natural Gas Flame Effects Controller
- Design of controls and safety systems for four multi-element natural gas flame effects experienced by guests on a roller coaster. Oversight of flame sizing and positioning for compliance with Hazard Analysis. Design of Flame Effects Control System and related safety systems (intrusion, access, fault detection) for four effects totaling 10 burners. Effects included constant burn, bi-level, and fire-ball designs. Analysis of gas delivery and control system for safety and compliance with standards and Hazard Analysis.
BATTLE STATIONS 21 SIMULATOR (for BRC Imagination Arts) Comprehensive Effects/Audio/Video/Controls Design

Top-level system concepts, control scheme, equipment lists, infrastructure design and standard interconnect for all simulator systems. Simulator serves as the final exam for classes of 300-400 Naval recruits, subjecting them to a rigorous and realistic onboard battle scenario over the course of 24 hours involving drills, routine assignments, enemy fire, casualties, fires, equipment failures, evacuation and more. Systems concepts were incorporated into winning bid for the project, now under construction.
Major California Theme Park Air Launched Fireworks Control System
- Designed, tested and installed 24 subsystem controllers, supervisory controller, control consoles, and fault tolerant low and line voltage distribution systems for 360 air cannons. Cannons launch air-burst fireworks shells in 3-6 inch sizes utilizing compressed air, eliminating cost and environmental impact of conventional powder lift charge. Launch control system interlocked in real time with ignition control system to prevent dud launches without interrupting remainder of show. Conducted and authored formal Hazard Analysis for all mechanical, electrical, control, software and operational aspects of system.
Major Southern California Themepark Attraction Fire Safety Enhancements
- Implemented code-compliant coordination of Fire Alarm, Emergency Lighting, Ride Control, Show Control, Operations, HVAC, Emergency Power, and Sprinkler systems. Designed Interlock Controller to execute coordinated response. Managed expert consultants and engineering resources and reviewed recommendations. Prepared project schedules, cost estimates and construction specifications.
MUSEUM OF TOLERANCE JERUSALEM (for ELECTROSONIC) Systems and Infrastructure Design Facility-wide
- World-class international conference center and museum designed by Frank O. Gehry. Designed all systems for 250 seat legislative council center, 500 seat multi-media theater, nine 25-60 seat interactive lecture rooms, 1200 seat grand hall, atrium, and library. Included fiber-optic backbone, broadcast video links, video-conferencing, delegate voting system, digital audio, custom audio designs, multi-format video projection, and more.
Major Southern California Themepark Ride Control Legislative Compliance
- Review of all Operational, Maintenance, and Safety test procedures pertaining to ride controls to ensure compliance with California Permanent Amusement Ride Safety Inspection Program. Authored Operational Test Plans for 21 rides. Trained personnel in test plan execution, inspected control systems, recommended upgrades and revisions as appropriate.
SPACEPARK BREMEN (for CITY DESIGN GROUP) Facility and Systems Engineering
- Systems engineering consultant for show systems. Multiple theaters and attractions involving 3D film, 3D video, audio, special effects and controls. Design and specification of 3D film projection system for 400 seat special effects theater.
Major Japanese Theme Park Flame Effect Controller
- Supervisory controller design for ten networked propane and natural gas flame cannons. Controller PLC on fiber optic network to remote burners and color touchscreen display supervises all safety, intrusion, fault detection, fault reporting, maintenance and system sequencing functions.
LEGOLAND California (for EDWARDS TECHNOLOGIES) Show Programming
- Show control programming of shows and assorted animated and action effects using show control and playback devices controlling solid state audio sources, video servers, discrete I/O, and lighting controllers.
BRC IMAGINATION ARTS Show Systems Infrastructure Designs
- Design packages for multiple attractions defining functionality of all show systems and facility impact requirements including: Power, specialized utilities, conduit, cabling, equipment lists, weights, locations, etc. Show systems include all audio, video, film, projection, and control systems. Venues include Discovery World, Taiwan; Sapmi Magic Theater, Norway; Museum of the Civil War Soldier; Texas State History Museum, Texas; Robot Explorers, Kennedy Space Center; and others.
Major Japanese Theme Park Animated Effects Controllers
- Design, test, and commissioning of multiple subsystem controllers for attraction effects. PLC based systems with touch-screen control interfaces for managing moving effects. A variety of pneumatic, hydraulic, motor and mechanical technologies combined to control visual, audible, LN2, steam and water effects.
Major California Theme Park Pavilion Show and Ride Control System
- Design, installation, and commissioning of show and ride control system for pavilion. System controls and synchronizes rotating building motion to show systems. Includes on-board and wayside subsystems communicating via spread-spectrum RF data link. PLC based controls with remote I/O network, multiple operator control consoles, RF antenna system, six motor control centers, and automatic door control.
Major Florida Theme Park Multiple Ride Vehicle On-Board-Audio Systems
- Design of high quality, multi-track digital audio systems for On-Board playback of ride musical, narration, and effects segments, synchronous to ride track. Systems are installed on, or in production for, six different attractions including high-speed coasters, trains, buses, and boats. Power types include self-contained rechargeable, 12 VDC vehicle systems, and 480 VAC bus bar. Scope included system specification and design, packaging, interface with vehicle vendors, test and debug.
GENERAL MOTORS/EPCOT (for BRC IMAGINATION ARTS ) Post Shows Systems Engineering
- Complete systems definition package including: Equipment Lists, Interconnect, Facility Impact, Power Requirements, Audio Systems, Video Systems, Projection, etc. Systems definitions were derived from show creative intent documents, and were included in bid packages for prospective suppliers and contractors. Advised client and suppliers on design of effects. Participated in bid evaluation and award of subcontracts.
Leading Television Manufacturer Value Engineering Analysis, client and competitor television products
- Analyzed manufacturing costs and technologies employed in a cross-section of 27 and 35-inch CRT televisions and 50-inch rear projection televisions. Supplied client with component costs, assembly costs, and completed assembly costs for television electronics using North American and Asian manufacturing facilities. Data was used by client as an audit of internal costs and as a source of external manufacturing opportunities. Relative standing of client's product technologies and inherent costs was established.
ALL-AMERICAN SPORTPARK, Las Vegas, Nevada Audio/Video System Requirements Specification
- System design, functional descriptions and system block diagrams for all audio and video systems. Preparation of bid package and assistance in bid evaluation. System included thirty-six video and audio sources configured into five themed attraction area subsystems with selectable configurations for special events and merchandising opportunities.
MITSUBISHI ELECTRONICS AMERICA-Diamond Vision Screens Automation of video control and support systems
- Integrated controls into a Mitsubishi PLC with graphic LCD display/control panel. Menu based system allows operator to control and monitor all screen power systems for one or more screens from a graphic display remotely located in the control booth. Adjustment of video parameters such as brightness, color, scan rate/size, etc. is also included. System elements include motor speed controller, temperature modules, RS232 and RS422 communication modules, discrete I/O, and graphic display/control panels. System is installed at University of Nebraska, Lincoln stadium, and Los Angeles Coliseum.
SPACE SHUTTLE AMERICA, SIX FLAGS, Gurnee, Illionois Show control network engineering and programming
- Attraction consists of 5/70 film and dual motion bases with multiple video and audio sources and destinations. Show control is done by a single SLC 500 networked to three slave SLC500's over DH485. Slave PLC's reside in each motion base controller and projector controller. Programming included network modules in master and slaves, show control module in master (150 I/O points), and motion base supervisory module in master.

- Attraction consists of 5/70 film and effects plus audio and video. SLC500 show controller networked to a slave SLC500 in projector controller. Programmed network modules and test/debug module for all show control I/O (150 points).
AUTOMATED PROJECTOR CONTROLLER PRODUCT Product development
- Designed special venue projector controller. Integrates projection system components into a centrally controlled product. Accepts virtually any lamphouse, transport, loop cabinet, platters, etc. Product is network ready in addition to providing discrete connections to show controller. Project included electrical, mechanical, and packaging engineering, component specification and purchasing, programming, and documentation.
CUSTOM PROJECTOR CONTROLLER 15kW/70mm System development
- PLC based system for special venue 15kW projector. Control of chiller, lamp power supply, lamp ignition, cooling, transport, operator controls and status display is handled by a single SLC500. Project scope included electrical engineering for power distribution, system interconnect, controls, packaging and programming.
DUELING PIRATES STUNT SHOW, MGM GRAND, Las Vegas, NV Show Automation Controller (SAC) programming
- PLC 5/60 based supervisory system for 12-SLC500 effects controllers. SAC system monitors all life safety considerations, controls timing of all effect and audio cues, monitors and controls the Technical Director's Operator Control Console (OCC), and updates the TD's Show Status Display screen. Show effects include eight live actor mechanical motion effects, a flame chase, "explosion" flames, actor catapult, steam blasts, "cannon hit" blasts, and assorted smaller effects.
